NCCR SPIN Coordinator

The Department of Physics at the University of Basel invites applications for the position of Project Coordinator of the Swiss National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) "SPIN: Spin Qubits in Silicon". The University of Basel is the home institution of the NCCR SPIN which has the aim to develop elements of scalable quantum computer platform based on electron and hole spin qubits in silicon and germanium.

Your position

As Coordinator, you will act as the heart of NCCR SPIN and it will be in your hands to ensure smooth and effective operations and communications. In your role you will be part of the NCCR SPIN's Executive Committee, will lead a small team (SPIN Office) and play a central role in NCCR SPIN's management. You will closely interact with the NCCR directors, the scientific project leaders and various entities at the University of Basel, IBM Research, ETH Zurich, EPF Lausanne, the Swiss National Science Foundation, and others as necessary. Among other things, your responsibilities include contract governance, ensuring compliance, stakeholder alignment, documentation of executive committee meetings and important decisions, and data management. Furthermore, you coordinate, contribute to, and compile SPIN's reports and proposals and you organize the yearly review meetings with your team. You also serve as a central contact person for general inquiries.

Initially, the position is for the first phase of NCCR SPIN, running until the 31st of July 2024. An extension to phases 2 and 3, each estimated at 4 years, is envisioned.

Your profile

You are a proactive, diligent, efficient and curious person with a talent for coordinating our Swiss excellence network in research who can get excited about spin-based quantum computing and more generally quantum science and technology. Our ideal candidate has experience in program management, is familiar with SNSF regulations, and has strong skills in LaTeX and MS Office. Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required and fluency in German is an asset. A background in natural sciences (maybe in a SPIN-related discipline) might be advantageous.

We offer you

The Department of Physics at the University of Basel offers an international environment where cutting-edge research in quantum science and quantum computing is pursued. The University of Basel is an equal opportunity and family friendly employer committed to excellence through diversity. We offer a multifaceted position in an interdisciplinary network at the forefront of quantum computer research where you can benefit from the attractive working conditions of the University of Basel. We especially encourage female applications.

Application / Contact

Applications should include the following documents:

  • Motivation letter (maximum two pages)
