The Laboratory Automation Facility (LAF) is a central research and service platform at ETH’s Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering (D-BSSE), located in Basel. This facility provides services and accompanied access to state-of-the-art laboratory automation. Main focus is to provide a high-end instrument portfolio that is well maintained and updated in combination with expert technical and scientific support. We are looking for an Automation Engineer to join the SCU as a part time (30%) substitute.
Automation Engineer at the ETH Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering, Basel /part time.
We are looking for a candidate who will be responsible for the operation of automation/robotics within the facility. Responsibilities include transferring experimental protocols into robotic workflows (scripting, programming, instrument reconfiguration), instrument maintenance, user training and support during the use of the established protocols.
The candidate should have an engineering or science background and experience in the field of laboratory automation, preferably with liquid and cell handling. The position requires hands-on experience in assay development and instrument maintenance. Good programming skills for scripting and customized programming of automated systems are essential. A background in biology is a plus. The position demands fluency in English to support scientific research and operations at the ETH. Besides having the above-mentioned technical abilities in the field of laboratory automation, the candidate must be a team player and possess the ability to adapt to work in a variety of scientific areas. The position is located in Basel and can start immediately. The position is initially available for 6 months.
