Scientist in Polymer and Laser Processing Research

Empa is the research institute for materials science and technology of the ETH Domain and conducts cutting-edge research for the benefit of industry and the well-being of society.

The main objective of a national, multi-partner and interdisciplinary research project is to shape complex 3D pieces for MEMS applications by an innovative laser assisted shaping process of an organic ceramic liquid precursor. Within this project, our Laboratory for High Performance Ceramics offers a position for a

to develop a laser assisted shaping process for highly-structured, small-sized (mm-range), ceramic parts on the laboratory scale to be incorporated into wear sensitive components by our industrial partners. You will also characterize the resulting ceramics and parts made thereof for mechanical and other relevant properties. For this demanding and challenging interdisciplinary project we are looking for a highly motivated, communicative candidate preferably with a Ph.D. in materials science with strong focus on polymers, physics or a related field. Indispensable is an in-depth theoretical background and “hands-on” practical experience in laser processing. The candidate needs to be fluent in English (oral and written).

This position will be available as of June 1st, 2016 with a planned duration of 2 years.

Additional information can be obtained by contacting Jakob Kübler,

We are looking forward to your online application including a motivation letter, CV, diploma copies and two reference letters.
