Research Assistant

ETH Zurich is one of the world’s leading universities specialising in science and technology. It is renowned for its excellent education, its cutting-edge fundamental research and its efforts to put new knowledge and innovations directly into practice. The Rehabilitation Engineering Laboratory is part of the Institute of Robotics and Intelligent Systems at the Department of Health Sciences and Technology and is located at the Balgrist Campus. We apply robotics, wearable sensor technologies and non-invasive neuroimaging to explore, assess and restore sensorimotor function.

Research Assistant

The ETH Pattus is a robotic platform designed for motor learning experiments with rodents. This device allows the implementation of force fields to guide or perturb forelimb motion in a well-controlled and reproducible manner, and provides a quantitative assessment of movement kinematics. The ETH Pattus opens up new research avenues for the characterization of motor learning stages, both in healthy and in stroke animal models.

We are actively collaborating with 4 research labs using ETH Pattus setups, and we need to assembe (electronic hardware components) and test a set of 2 new robotic platforms. For this purpose, we are looking for a motivated HiWi student with experience in electronics, soldering, cabling and assembly of mechatronic devices. Additional experience with programming in LabVIEW would be beneficial.

The tasks inlude the familiarization with the ETH Pattus hardware setup, the ordering of electronic components, assembly of electronic boxes, computer and program preparation and testing.
For this purpose, we are looking for a motivated HiWi student with experience in electronics, soldering, cabling and assembly of mechatronic devices. Additional experience with programming in LabVIEW would be beneficial. Work hours are subject to a regulatory maximum of 15 hours per week during the semester. To be eligible for this position, you must be an enrolled student at ETH Zurich, University of Zurich, or another Swiss institution.
