Doctoral student in the area of Electromechanical Engineering: Electrical Drive Systems

Job description

  • You prepare a doctorate thesis in the field of Energy Efficient Control of Electrical Motors.
  • You contribute to teaching and research in the Faculty of Applied Engineering: Electromechanics.
  • You publish scientific articles related to the research project of your assignment.
  • If applicable you will apply for an externally funded PhD scholarship (i.e. FWO or VLAIO).

Profile and requirements

  • You hold a master degree in Electromechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or similar.
  • You can submit outstanding academic results.
  • Students in the final year of their degree (2018-2019) can apply too.
  • Experience in the design of electrical drivelines is a plus.
  • The focus in your teaching corresponds to the educational vision of the university. You will have a minor lecturing load.
  • Your academic qualities comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s policy.
  • You are quality-oriented, conscientious, creative and cooperative.
  • You have a strong interest in scientific research and a strong perseverance.
  • You are able to plan and carry out your tasks in an independent way.
  • You have strong analytical skills to interpret the obtained research results.
  • You are a team player and have strong communication skills.
  • You are able to commit to timing and milestones set forward in different research projects.
  • You have excellent knowledge of the English language, in both oral and written communication.

We offer

  • a doctoral scholarship for a period of two years, with the possibility of renewal for a further two-year period after positive evaluation;
  • the start date of scholarship will be 1 October 2019;
  • a gross monthly grant ranging from € 2.373,36 to € 2.516,73;
  • a dynamic and stimulating work environment in a young and innovative faculty.

  • A pre-selection will be made from amongst the submitted applications. The remainder of the selection procedure is specific to the position and will be determined by the selection panel.
  • After the preselection, the candidates who are admitted to the remainder of the selection procedure, will be invited for an interview that takes place between 1 and 16 May 2019.
