The Department of Social Sciences of the University of Basel, Switzerland, invites applications for a position of Visiting Faculty to teach the intensive course "Practical Introduction to Documentary Filmmaking"
in the MA program of Critical Urbanisms.
The successful candidate will teach a 5-day intensive course:
20-24 January 2020.
The course "Practical Introduction to Documentary Filmmaking" will teach students to apply the basic principles and tools of documentary film making to research and project needs.
This course is meant to explore in an inter-disciplinary manner innovative and accessible visual technologies as tools for urban research.
We seek an engaging teacher whose pedagogical methods involve students in active filmmaking, to encourage students to develop their skills, practice, knowledge, and critical thinking. The candidate should be interdisciplinary-someone who will creatively and intellectually challenge the standard tropes of urban documentation. The successful candidate will provide an overview of documentary theory and practice, and engage students
in filmmaking practice.
- MA degree in Documentary Filmmaking, or Journalism, Media and Communications, or related field.
- Proven experience in documentary filmmaking
- Expertise in two or more of the following areas: urban studies, architecture, spatial politics and social justice, human rights and conflict studies, art and activism.
- Successful teaching experience
- Excellent spoken and written English
