Research Manager, Cell- and Tissue imaging

The Faculty of Health Sciences operates at the Kuopio Campus of the University of Eastern Finland. The Faculty offers education in medicine, dentistry, nutrition and pharmacy, as well as in some other central fields of the health care sector. The Faculty is research-intensive, and its internationally recognised research activities are closely linked to the strategic research areas of the University. There are approximately 2 500 degree students and about 450 PhD students in the Faculty. The faculty has 680 staff members.

We are now inviting applications for

a Research Manager (Cell and Tissue Imaging) position, School of Medicine, Institute of Biomedicine, Kuopio Campus

In the Institute of Biomedicine, we conduct research ranging from population-based studies to basic molecular mechanisms to understand, treat and prevent common chronic diseases, such as Alzheimer s disease, cancer, and cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. We also host the core units of cell and tissue imaging, bioinformatics and chromatin research. More information on our research activities is available at our website at .

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Manager who will be responsible for the operation and development of the Cell and Tissue Imaging Unit (CTI) in the Institute of Biomedicine. The CTI unit specialises in high and super-resolution imaging of cells and tissues as well as in molecular dynamics in live cells. We have state-of-the-art microscopes, high-throughput live-cell imaging instruments and a histology laboratory equipped with modern devices. The CTI unit offers user training and support, including consultation on experimental set-up, sample preparation and image analysis.

The task of the Research Manager will be to actively develop the infrastructure and operations of the CTI unit in collaboration with researchers and experts in the faculty. In addition, the Research Manager is expected to do scientific research, supervise MSc and PhD theses and teach undergraduate and postgraduate students according his/her expertise. The Research Manager will also participate in separately agreed administrative tasks.

A successful candidate will have a suitable doctoral degree and a solid experience of the use of cell and tissue imaging techniques in research. In evaluating the merits of the applicants, we will consider their research activity and vision of carrying out research work in the Research Manager position, as well as their expertise and experience in cell and tissue imaging, peer-reviewed publications, external research funding and supervised theses. Additional consideration is given to teaching experience and pedagogical education.

The Research Manager position is a permanent position starting on 1 September 2019 (or as agreed).

A probationary period is applied to all new members of the staff.

The salary of the position is determined in accordance with the salary system of Finnish universities and is based on level 7 of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff ( 3 946,50 / month). In addition to the job requirement component, the salary includes a personal performance component, which may be a maximum of 50% of the job requirement component.
