Job description

This position is based in the Joensson Biomicrofluidics team within the KTH Nanobiotechnology Group at Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) in collaboration with several leading groups in cell factory development and synthetic biology. The aim of the project is to develop novel droplet microfluidics tools for cell manipulation and high throughput analysis and screening and to implement these on automation platforms to make them available to collaborators and the greater research community. The project will focus on screening of microbial cells and to some lesser extent mammalian cells.

The successful candidate will perform work at the interface of biotechnology, microfluidics and technology, including:

  • biological application driven microfluidics technology development
  • droplet microfluidics assay design and development
  • cell library screening and characterization
  • automation of biomicrofluidics with broad applicability
  • active participation in the overall activity of the research group and networks

The starting date is open for discussion, though ideally, we would like the successful candidate to start as soon as possible. This postdoctoral position is a full-time employed position for one year with a possible one-year extension. The position is based at the SciLifeLab in Solna, the Swedish national hub for molecular bioscience.

Recruirements

A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline.

Candidates should have good command of English and a good ability to express themselves in speech as well as in writing.

Preferred qualifications

" Scientific excellence with relevant PhD degree, i,e. a Ph.D. degree, within a subject relevant for the research, such as microfluidics, cell and molecular biology, biotechnology, chemistry or biophysics.

" Experience from the design of biological applications of microfluidics

" Previous experience of droplet microfluidics and / or cell and molecular biology methods for microbial and mammalian cell analysis with microfluidic tools.

" Previous experience with microfluidic instrumentation technology.

" Good experience with publication of advanced research work.

Further qualifications sought after as a merit for this position includes experience of optics and optical detection equipment as well as cell and molecular biology research. Experience of working in group and supervising doctoral students as well as experience with writing grant applications and writing scientific articles is a plus.
