The Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies operates on two campuses of the University of Eastern Finland in Joensuu and Kuopio . The faculty trains experts in the fields of history, geography, economics and business administration, law, social sciences, and social and health management . The faculty's research is closely linked to the research areas identified in the university's strategy. The faculty has approximately 4,300 Bachelors and Masters degree students and approximately 450 postgraduate students actively pursuing their studies. an Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Social Work (Tenure Track) position, Department of Social Sciences, Kuopio Campus
The position of Associate/Assistant Professor in Social Work is a fixed-term position in the Tenure Track of the University of Eastern Finland. The position will be situated in the Department of Social Sciences of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies at the Kuopio Campus.
The Department of Social Sciences of the University of Eastern Finland operates on both the Joensuu and Kuopio campuses. The department hosts five academic subjects: sociology, social psychology, social pedagogy, social work, and public policy. Education in social work is offered on the Kuopio Campus. The department's research focuses on social dimensions of welfare; mobilities and borders; education and work; and social work. The department is also involved in the universitys House of Effectiveness, which serves as a platform for research collaboration in the areas of welfare and health.
In the currently vacant position, the Tenure Track can be entered from the Assistant Professor or the Associate Professor level onwards, depending on the level of the applicant. At the end of the term, the merits of the person will be evaluated to determine whether he or she can proceed to the next level of the Tenure Track (Associate Professor or Professor) without public notice of vacancy. The criteria, objectives and results to be achieved during the term in order to proceed to the next level of the Tenure Track will be agreed in detail with the appointee when signing the contract of employment.
A person to be appointed as an Associate Professor in the Tenure Track shall hold a suitable doctoral degree and have good teaching skills. Furthermore, a person to be appointed as an Associate Professor in the Tenure Track shall have the prerequisites for fulfilling the qualification requirements of a Professor by the end of the Tenure Track term (UEF University Regulations, Section 31).
In accordance with UEFs University Regulations (Section 31), persons to be appointed as Senior Researchers (Assistant Professors in the Tenure Track) shall hold a suitable doctoral degree and have good teaching skills.
The duties of the Associate/Assistant Professor include carrying out and promoting research in social work, giving teaching in social work at all levels of education, and participating in other activities of the department. In particular, the Associate/Assistant Professor's research is expected to focus on effectiveness in social work and social welfare services. Effectiveness in Healthcare and Social Services is an emerging field at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies. The person to be appointed to the position is expected to participate in project activities, in the acquisition of national and international research funding, and in international research networks.
The person to be appointed is expected
- to have demonstrated experience in research addressing the field of the position, or general experience in research, which is supplemented by skills, to be explained in the work plan, to direct research towards the field later, as well as
- experience in university-level teaching and supervision.
When assessing the applicants research merits, his or her scientific publishing activities, engagement in international research cooperation, experience in leading a research group (Associate Professor) and acquired competitive funding will be taken into consideration.
In this position, English can be used as the language of research, teaching and supervision. Proficiency in the Finnish language will be regarded as a merit.
The position is intended to be filled for a four-year term starting on 1 January 2020. The position is filled for a fixed term due to it being a fixed-term research and teaching position (Tenure Track).
The salary of the Associate Professor position is based on level 7 (3,946.50 /month) of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff, and the salary of the Assistant Professor position is based on level 6 (3,423.25 /month). In addition to the job requirement component, the salary is supplemented by a personal performance component, which can be a maximum of 50 % of the job requirement component.
A trial period is applied to new members of the university's staff.
