The University of Luxembourg seeks to hire one outstanding R&D specialist for research and engineering activities at its Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT).

SnT is a centre carrying out interdisciplinary research in secure, reliable and trustworthy ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) systems and services, often in collaboration with industrial, governmental or international partners. CritiX (Critical and Extreme Security and Dependability) is a research group, and a laboratory for state-of-the-art research in problem areas including the protection of critical systems and data against severe and persistent threats. We advocate resilience as a paradigm shift enabling a comprehensive approach to extreme security and dependability challenges, from first principles. Your Role
Successful candidates have a unique opportunity of participating in the creation of a product candidate of the GenoMask box for early stage genomic information processing, possibly laying down the cornerstones of a highly innovative spin-off with protected IP. The position is embedded in an FNR JUMP – Proof of Concept project of the CritiX team.

The CritiX lab is supported by a very substantial PEARL Grant from the Luxembourg National Research Fund, FNR (http://www.fnr.lu/funding-instruments/pearl) and several other projects, namely with Intel Labs, and others about to start (https://wwwen.uni.lu/snt/research/critix/research_projects).

The research group and the ongoing projects provide candidates excellent conditions for a nice mix of high-level engineering and applied research, enhancing their career as design engineers.

The R&D topics and activities this opening is related to, and calling for, are:

  • Project context: FNR JUMP – PoC GenoMask --- new challenges in sharing of critical data whilst preserving privacy, availability and integrity (biomedical).
  • Engineering of high-end embedded systems.
  • Design and implementation of algorithms and data structures, including memory optimization techniques.

The candidate will work closely with Dr. Jérémie Decouchant (the PI of the GenoMask project) and the other team members of the CritiX Research Group headed by Prof. Esteves-Veríssimo.

English is the working language of this international laboratory.

Your Profile

  • We welcome candidates with a Master degree in Computer Science and/or Engineering, Informatics.
  • Strong programming skills at various levels (modern algorithms and data structures, ideally bridging cloud and networked applications and operating systems).
  • We consider as an advantage proven experience in one or several of the following topics: design and integration of high-end embedded systems and appliances; experience with platforms such as Raspberry PI or equivalent; knowledge about genomic workflows and file formats.
  • Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory.
  • We require commitment, team working and a critical mind.
