The Biozentrum of the University of Basel is one of the leading life sciences institutes in the world. It consists of 30 groups and 500 employees that research how molecules and cells create life, spanning the scale from atom to organism. Founded in 1971, the Biozentrum has been the birthplace of many fundamental discoveries in biology and medicine, spawning several Nobel Laureates.
The Dehio Lab at the Biozentrum is searching for a highly motivated 80-100% laboratory technician with experience in animal experimentation.
The successful applicant will join a dynamic research group studying how bacterial pathogens establish infection and how this effects the response to antibiotic treatment.
Main responsibilities include
- support of PhD students and postdocs in their research activities studying molecular mechanism of bacterial infection and antibiotic activity (approximately 50% of working time) of which about half is dedicated to work on small animal models
- general support functions and maintenance of the lab (approximately 50% of working time).
You have a "Laborant/in" degree or a Bachelor degree in Biology or related topics.
We expect you to possess good technical expertise in animal work (>2 years experience). You should have completed all required training courses including continuing education to work with small laboratory animals (Swiss standard).
We prefer at least two years of experience with microbiological techniques, cell culture, and/or molecular biology.
The position requires diligence, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to multi-task.
We are seeking a team-player, who is also capable of working independently. Enthusiasm and motivation for biological research are critical. The primary language of the laboratory and the Biozentrum is English.
