We are inviting applications for
a Postdoctoral Researcher position to investigate photocatalytically active 3D structures for industrial wastewater treatment, Department of Environmental Sciences, Kuopio Campus
The Postdoctoral Researcher will be placed in the team led by Associate Professor Anna Lähde at the Fine Particle and Aerosol Technology Laboratory (FINE, https://uefconnect.uef.fi/en/group/fine-particle-and-aerosol-technology-laboratory/ ). The FINE Laboratory has two main research areas: 1) nanotechnology research and 2) combustion and emission research. The laboratory has state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and pilot-scale facilities for gas phase synthesis and characterization of materials. The project related to this position is multidisciplinary and it collaborates closely with the following laboratories at the University of Eastern Finland ( https://uefconnect.uef.fi/en/group/mass-spectrometry-and-bioanalytical-chemistry-research-group/ , https://www.uef.fi/en/web/kemia/functional-materials ), at Lappeenranta University of Technology ( https://cst.lut.fi/member/eveliina-repo/ ), and at Savonia University of Applied Sciences ( http://environmentalengineering.savonia.fi/en ), as well as with a large international network of partners. The research carried out in the project is interdisciplinary, involving synthetic and analytic chemistry, materials research, wastewater remediation technologies and environmental science to provide industrially relevant solutions for wastewater treatment. The laboratories involved in the project are among the top research groups in the world in their research fields and they offer a unique environment for strong collaborative interdisciplinary research and productive co-operation.
The Postdoctoral Researcher will focus on the research and development of new methods to create photocatalytically active nano carbon-based structures to be used in photocatalytic wastewater treatment. The candidate should have good networking and collaborative skills to interact with the research groups involved in the research community. The applicant should have experience in nano carbon synthesis techniques and basic characterization methods, for example Raman, Electron microscopy, UV-Vis, XRD, and in the characterization of photocatalytic properties. Knowledge of photocatalytic water treatment will be an advantage. The candidate is expected to be able to design and execute processes independently, as well as to work in close collaboration with other team members.
A person to be appointed as a postdoctoral researcher is required to hold an applicable doctoral degree (UEF University Regulations, Section 31) that has to be completed by 5 June 2020. However, the doctoral degree may not be from more than 5 years ago at the time when the position starts, at the earliest from 1 August 2020. An applicant with a doctoral degree completed more than 5 years ago can be considered for a specific reason only (maternity, paternity, parental or childcare leave, military or non-military service). If the applicant pleads to the above-mentioned reasons, he or she needs to explain them in the application.
Good command of the English language is required.
The position will be filled for a fixed term of two years at the earliest from 1 August 2020. Postdoctoral researcher positions are always filled for a fixed term (UEF University Regulations, Section 31).
The salary of the Postdoctoral Researcher position is based on level 5 of the job requirement level chart of the teaching and research staff in the salary system for Finnish universities (2,967.84 /month). In addition to the job requirement component, the salary is supplemented by a personal performance component, which can be a maximum of 50 % of the job requirement component.
A probationary period will be applied to new members of the university staff.
