Laboratory Technician in Microbiology and Immunology
At the Department of Biomedicine (DBM), University of Basel, non-clinical and clinical scientists work side by side to foster a translational environment and thereby promoting the integrated research in biomedical science. We, the Infection Biology group, are looking for a highly motivated 50% laboratory technician with experience in microbiology and immunology techniques. We are a varied, interdisciplinary and international team, that explores host-and pathogen-specific aspects of infectious diseases in a strong translational setting. Our main focus is to understand the interaction of innate and adaptive immune responses in the context of bacterial and viral, infections with the aim at elucidating key mechanisms of immune protection, thus fostering personalized treatment – with the overarching goal to improve clinical outcome. In the collaboration with the Biozentrum (The Center for Molecular Life Science) we are involved in the NCCR project "AntiResist" which requires technical support.
The successful applicant will join a dynamic research group studying bacterial resistance and tolerance development under antibiotic treatment as well as novel treatment strategies in patients with infectious diseases.
Main responsibilities include
- support our microbiology and immunology experiments (e.g. Preparing media and plates, isolation and cultivation of immune cells)
- organization of sample collection
- support of PhD students and postdocs in their research activities
- general support functions and maintenance of the lab
You have a "Laborant/in" degree or a Bachelor/Master degree in Biology or related topics. We expect good technical expertise in microbiology and immunology techniques (at least 1-2 years of experience)
The position requires diligence, highly developed organizational and communication skills, and the ability to multi-task. Flexibility and a strong desire to learn new techniques is of advantage.
We are seeking a team-player, who is also capable of working independently. Enthusiasm and motivation for biological research are essential. Fluent English is important, and at least a basic level of German language with motivation to improve would be beneficial.
