Third-cycle subject: Chemical Science and Engineering

The current PhD position is part of an inter-disciplinary project NEGAF Energy efficient negative emissions from agriculture and farming , funded by the Swedish Energy Agency within the Graduate School in Energy Systems. The project aims at proposing a single system to mitigate multiple greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4, N2O) from air linked to the agricultural and farming sector. The project will identify the techno-economic-environmental-policy potential of the proposed concept in achieving Sweden s climate targets of no net emissions by 2045. The project is in collaboration with Uppsala University and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.

The doctoral candidate will mainly focus on i) estimate the energy and material requirements and compare it with other GHG mitigation measures ii) estimate the cost per ton of CH4, N2O and CO2 mitigated in the proposed concept iii) critically analyze the techno-economic system performance and identify challenges and opportunities for scaling up the technology in future energy scenario. The doctoral candidate will have to participate in all the program activities within the Graduate School that include regular meetings and seminars as well as a joint course package consisting of courses of at least 30 credits in total. The candidate is expected to collaboratively work with other doctoral candidates within the project at partner universities.

Supervision: The doctoral student will be supervised by Shareq Mohd Nazir (Assistant Professor) and Stefan Grönkvist (Associate Professor) at the Division of Energy Processes, Department of Chemical Engineering, CBH School, KTH.

Eligibility

To be admitted to postgraduate education (Chapter 7, 39 Swedish Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility in accordance with either of the following:

  • Should have obtained a masters degree in chemical/environmental/energy engineering or other related fields
  • Completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level, or
  • in any other way acquired within or outside the country acquired essentially equivalent knowledge.

  • have a professional approach and
  • analyse and work with complex issues
  • Doctoral candidate should be keen on learning Swedish to be able to contribute to teaching duties.

Only those admitted to postgraduate education may be employed as a doctoral student. The total length of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education in four years ' time. An employed doctoral student can, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks within their role, e.g. training and administration. A new position as a doctoral student is for a maximum of one year, and then the employment may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time.
