Master student and medical doctoral student positionin Microbiology
We have a fundamental understanding of how antibiotics inhibit bacterial growth and how bacteria overcome growth restriction (drug resistance). Much less is known about bacterial killing. How do some bacteria survive a normally deadly treatment? Are these bacteria responsible for treatment failures during infection? Can we target these cells with novel therapies? We are working at the interface of genomics, experimental microbiology and patient care to tackle these questions. If you are curious and motivated get in touch with us!
The research group "Pulmonary Research" is looking for a master (biology) and a doctoral student (medicine).
You will design and run experiments involving next generation sequencing, mass spectrometry, live cell imaging, robotics, CRISPR genome editing techniques and others. You will work in close collaboration with national and international research groups (e.g. Biozentrum, Basel; SwissTPH, Basel; ETH Zürich; University of Cambridge, UK).
We are looking for talented candidates passionate to drive the understanding of bacterial mechanisms overcoming drug therapy. We encourage applicants that are highly self-motivated and committed, have a proactive mindset and a getting-things-done attitude, and have the ability to work well in an interdisciplinary environment. An experience in microbiology techniques and bioinformatics is beneficial, but not essential. All applicants need to be fluent in English.
We offer you
We offer you an independent research project and an interdisciplinary training in a young motivated research team. We offer a dynamic research environment, including state-of-the art research facilities and enthusiastic colleagues from different nationalities and scientific backgrounds. We encourage participation in seminars and presentations at national and international scientific meetings. The position includes the possibility of a research stay at the University of Cambridge, UK. Anticipated starting date is beginning of 2021.
